This story starts out with Annemarie Johansen, her best friend Ellen Rosen, and Annemarie's little sister Kristi walking home from school. Annemarie and Ellen decide to race to a corner when a Nazi soldier tells them to Halte (which means to halt in English). We then figure out that the Nazi soldiers have been in Denmark (where the story takes place) for three years. The soldiers scold the kids, and they hurry home. Annemarie and Ellen tell each other that they won't tell their parents about the incident. So Ellen goes to her apartment and Annemarie goes to hers. what Annemarie didn't notice, was that her little sister Kristi had gotten home first. Of course she told her parents everything. They are at first worried, but when Annemarie told them that it was no big deal they were'nt as worried. The rest of this section talks about how Annemarie's sister died a few days before her wedding, and how nice the king of Denmark is.

At the beginning of this selection Annemarie,Kristi, and their mom are talking to each other about winter coming when their mom figures out that one of Kristi's buttons on her coat is missing, she just tells Annemarie to stop at Mrs. Hirsch's shop on the way home from school. It is no big deal until they fiigure out that the shop is closed and there is a sign on it in German. When Annemarie told her mom about it she was very upset. At first Annemarie thinks she's mad about not getting a button for Kristi's coat, but then after a late night visit from Peter (Lise's feonce before she died). Annemarie figures out that the Nazis are closing Jewish store owners shops. The next day Ellen tells Annemarie that the Jewish New Year is on Thursday and was wondering if she and Kristi would like to come over and watch her family light the Sabbath candles and eat roast chicken. After school on Thursday Mrs. Rosen knocked on there door and didn't come in, but their mom went out to talk to her. It was a while before she came in but when she did she had a worried look on her face, but made an anouncement that Ellen would be staying with them for a few nights. Of course Kristi was happy, but Annemarie was appalled. Even though Mr. and Mrs. Rosen had sent over the roast chicken nobody talked except for Kristi. After Kristi went to bed Annemarie's dad told Annemarie and Ellen that the Nazis were going to go to all the Jews in Denmark and were going to take them. He also told them that they must pretend to be sisters.

Afterword
It talks about what is real and what is fake in the story. It also talks about Lois's friend who lived in Denmark when the Nazis attacked.

You wrote good synopses, Jonny.

Characters
Kristi
Characteristics of Kristi is that she talks a lot and really likes fairy tails that have to do with a king and a queen that fall in love and live happily ever after. Kristi also has no idea about what's happening with the war. So Kristi is pretty much a chatter box that loves fairy tails and is very clueless about things that are happening right in front of her.

Annemarie
Some characteristics of Annemarie are that she is very grown up and doesn't like fairy tales and fiction she likes real things and wants to know the truth about the war and everything. An example of that is throughout the story she is always asking her parents for the truth She is also very brave because she does very dangerous deeds without thinking she just does it and makes sure it is done. An example of that is when she brought the hankerchief to uncle Henrik and didn't think she just did. These are some of the characteristics of Annemarie.

Plot Line
Exposition: The story takes place in 1943 In Copenhagen, Denmark when the Nazis occupied and and were arresting and relocating Jews. The Rosens are Jewish and they are the Johansens neighbors and best friends so they have to protect them.
Initiating Incident: The initiating incident of Number the Stars is when the Nazis started arresting the Jews in Copenhagen like the Johansens friend who got their shop closed because they were Jewish.
Rising Action 1: The first rising action of this story is when the Nazis take the list of all of the Jews and where they live from the local Synagogue and the Rosen's were on that list.
Rising Action 2: The Nazis come to the Johansens apartment when they were hiding Ellen and they almost figured out she was Jewish.
Rising Action 3: The Johansens and Ellen go to their Uncle Henrik's house which is on the coast and he is a fisherman who can take the Rosen's to Sweden.
Rising Action 4: The Nazis come to Uncle Henrik's house when they are having a fake funeral with other Jews so they can take them to Sweden but the Nazis fall for funeral trick and they leave.
Climax: The climax is the journey in the middle of the night to Uncle Henrik's boat and the path is very rugged and hard to walk on and because of that the Rosens tripped but were ok and made it to the boat.
Falling Action: Annemarie takes a drugged hankercheif to trick the dogs so they don't smell the Rosens but gets stopped by soliders and has to act all funny and dumb to get the soldiers to leave and once they leave she gets the hankercheif to her uncle. This would be the climax.
Resolution: When the dogs come aboard Henrik's boat the hankercheif works and he gets the Rosen's to Sweden they were saved. 3 years later the war ended and Denmark was free.
Falling action and resolution are two terms for the same thing.
Theme
It is that you should be happy for what you have.
An example is that Kirsti was mad that the soldiers were touching her hair, but she did not have it half as bad as Ellen has it.
Theme must be related to the main character Annemarie. I don't think your theme really applies to her, does it?

Settings

The first setting is Denmark. The setting affects the story because it has been occupied by the Nazi's for three years, and if the town wasn't occupied by Nazis the story wouldn't even take place. When the Nazis took over nobody from Denmark liked it.

This book's time period is during the 1940's. It affects the story because it is when World War II and the Holocaust were at its peek. It is also the time period when they started arresting and killing Jews.
Don't forget to update your setting with a description of where Uncle Henrik lives. You are doing a good job, Jonny!

The second setting is the Danish coast in Gillejie a port village. This affects the story because this is were Annemarie, Ellen, Kristi, and Inge (Annemarie and Kristi's mom) go to hide Ellen from the Nazis. It also affects the story because some of the fisherman were secretly sneaking Jews to Sweden.

I think that NTS is a really good book. A few reasons for that is because it is really scary and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Yes!” I said as I walked down the stairs, “It’s December 11.”
“What’s so great about December 11” my neighbor Drew who happens to be
his best friend said through his window.
“Tomorrow the world is going to end, and I am determined not to waste my
last day on earth.”
“Common be reasonable who actually believes in that”
“Trust me all the cool people do.” Jason said.
“Don’t do this to your self” I heard him say as I ran out the door.
“I was due to yell at my boss in 30 minutes.” I said to myself

I was on the highway now and going to work. I was going about 100 miles
per hour and I was zooming in between cars when all of a sudden I jumped out and
on to the hood of the car next to me my car flew off the bridge and on to the road below. The driver was obviously very wealthy.
“Get off of my car” he yelled.
“O.K.” I said and jumped on to of the car next to it. It was Bill (somebody from my work) so I decided to stay on it tell I was at work. We were almost there when I saw Drew’s car pull up next to Bill’s. He rolled down the window and said “Jason, you need to stop. Just jump on to my car I’ll take you to work and then pick you up at the end of the day.” “Why do you care” I said “The world will end tomorrow. Why don’t you climb up here and join in the fun” “Jason can you think this over” he said. “Sorry, man We’re at work” I said “Oh and look at the time I’m late.” “Why do you care isn’t the world going to end tomorrow.” Drew said. “Hey I have a lot of things planned for today.” I said as I steel some kid’s hot dog and then ran inside. I was walking in liesurley to my office. When I got there my boss was waiting for me. “Sup” I said to him. ”Jason your late” He said “Don’t let it happen again.” “But there won’t be an again” I said. “What are you talking about” He said. “Oh you know. Now scoot, our I’ll make you.” I said. “You’re fired!!!” He yelled. “O.K.” I said as I pushed the $1,000.00 computer that held all of the company’s data on the ground. My boss just stood there and watched it shatter. I just walked right out the door and on to the street.
When I got to the street I looked around and saw a drug store “Perfect” I said as I walked in. “Can I help you?” A teenager said who worked there. “I won’t be long” I said. He went over to help a man find some thing. While he was doing that I jumped over the front desk. I pulled out a hammer from my pocket and hit the cash register as hard as I could. It opened and I took out a match lit it on fire and then I put the match in the cash register closed the cash register and threw it out the window. It just missed a car, but it landed in the middle of the road. Unluckily there was a cop right there. He looked me right in the eye all I did was wink at him and grabbed a few candy bars and escaped out the back door. While I was running out I saw that now one got hurt and the fire went out, which was what I had planned on.
I was walking down the street when I remembered “I have date tonight” I said to myself “but were is it. Oh ya its at the GF (great food). Which is luckily only one block away.” So I decided to walk. By the time I got there I was ten minutes late. My date was waiting and she did not look happy.
“Sup” I said as I sat down and put my feet on the table.
“What are you doing your ten minutes late” she said
“Oh calm down it’s no big deal.” But before I could say anything I saw the cop that I had winked at
